Frequently asked questions
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — the cameras, radars, and sensors that power features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and traffic sign recognition. These systems rely on extremely precise sensor alignment. Even a small change — a windscreen replacement, suspension work, a minor knock, or wheel alignment — can throw them off and cause the systems to react incorrectly or fail entirely.
Calibration is required after:
Windscreen replacement (the forward-facing camera is mounted to the windscreen)
Front or rear radar repair or replacement (often behind the front grille or bumper)
Front-end collision or bumper work
Suspension or steering geometry changes (wheel alignment, control arm replacement, ride height changes)
Camera or sensor fault codes showing on diagnostics If in doubt, we can scan the car and tell you whether calibration is needed.
Static calibration is done in the workshop using manufacturer-specified targets and boards positioned at exact distances from the car. It requires a level floor, controlled lighting, and precise measurements.
Dynamic calibration is done on the road, driving the car at specific speeds on well-marked roads so the system can recalibrate against real-world references. Many vehicles require both — static first, then a dynamic drive to complete the process. We perform both at 125 Coding.
Yes. We use professional ADAS calibration equipment with manufacturer-specific target boards, combined with our dealer-level diagnostic tools (VW Group ODIS, BMW ISTA, Mercedes XENTRY, Porsche PIWIS, Volvo VIDA, Toyota/Lexus TechDoc, and Ford FDRS) to perform calibrations to manufacturer specification.
We calibrate ADAS systems on All Vehicles! We have dealer software for VW Group vehicles (VW, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Porsche), BMW and MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Toyota and Lexus, and Ford. If you're unsure whether we cover your vehicle, get in touch with your registration.
Static calibration typically takes 1–2 hours. If a dynamic drive is also required, allow another 30–60 minutes depending on local roads and traffic. Full multi-system calibrations (front camera, front radar, rear radar, surround cameras) on more complex vehicles can take longer.
Sometimes, but not always. Some windscreen fitters now offer in-house calibration, but the quality varies and not all setups meet manufacturer specifications. If your warning lights have stayed on after a windscreen replacement, or if features like lane keep assist or AEB aren't behaving normally, the calibration likely wasn't completed correctly. We can verify and re-calibrate to manufacturer standard.
The ADAS systems may behave unpredictably — false braking warnings, lane keep assist pulling at the wrong moment, adaptive cruise misjudging distances, or systems disabling themselves entirely. In a worst-case scenario, a poorly calibrated AEB or lane assist could contribute to an accident. It's not worth the risk.
Yes. After every calibration we provide a printed report showing the systems calibrated, the before-and-after readings, and confirmation that calibration was completed to manufacturer specification. This is useful for insurers and your service history.
Pricing depends on the vehicle and how many systems need calibrating:
Single system (e.g. front camera after windscreen replacement): typically from £150–£250
Multi-system calibration: typically £300–£500+ Send us your registration and details of the work being done and we'll give you an exact quote.
